State-of-the-art facility to help businesses advance manufacturing due to open in 2023

The renovation of the old fire station at the Market Yard, Sligo will commence at the end of January.

The AIM Centre’s strategic ambition is to be at the forefront of advanced innovation for manufacturing organisations and supply chain. To achieve this, the ambition is to develop a state-of-the-art facility which will provide a focal point for industry, particularly for those in the West and North West. This facility, coupled with the centres resources, will assist with the challenges emerging from the digitisation and digitalisation of industry.

Whilst some organisations are just starting to think about how to broach new technology, many are embracing it and reaping the benefits.  As technology continues to race ahead, humans and machines will work collaboratively as cobots, robots and smart manufacturing becomes the norm.

AIM will engage manufacturing organisations across Ireland and provide them with expertise and the facilities available from the centre, with an overarching goal of assisting these organisations in bringing their companies into this new era.

Recently appointed director, Julie Dowling, of the AIM Centre said “In recognition of our strategic ambition we will play to our strengths and diversity, utilising experienced resources in the fields of artificial intelligence and analytics, robotics and automation, business strategy, research and engineering. We recognise that businesses are under pressure with ever changing landscapes brought about from Brexit and Covid 19, followed by an energy crisis, global inflation and talent retention issues. New technology can assist organisations with such challenges, and the AIM centre have the resources to help find the optimal solution for them”.

While the facility is undergoing the substantive renovation works several cutting-edge projects are already in-flight with research partners and businesses in the region.

It is expected that the building will be fully completed and occupied by the end of 2023.
